Meet Club Runner this Thursday

Sure was a gorgeous full moon Friday night.  The Farmer’s Almanac calls it the “Snow Moon”.  Don’t know about you, but I was happy it didn’t bring snow.  I am enjoying the (slightly) warmer days and watching the snow melt.

As our thoughts turn towards spring we can’t help but also think about the Rotary Barn.  After our fun and successful first year, with the leadership of Laurie Zimmerili and Deb Graves, we’re all looking forward to seeing one another and moving furniture together.  Laurie and Deb are looking at a tentative opening day of April 1st.  (How perfect).  Of course, this will depend on the weather and status of the pandemic at that time.  But, we are currently accepting donations of flea market items, household goods and tools.  So sorry, but we are no longer accepting books.  Call Deb Graves at 207-380-3550 to arrange a drop off. Deb, Laurie and Ingrid installed new shelving upstairs last week. (Thank you Marty Helman).  It sure looks welcoming up there with the new shelving, so organized and clean.  Just need your donations.

Welcome to Club Runner!  We are extremely excited to announce our website is now on Club Runner.   Join Us this Thursday, March 4th, to learn all about our new website and to give a huge round of applause to Vic Taylor, Jim Herbold, Brian McGrath and the IT Committee for making this happen.  It has been a lot of work.  We sure do appreciate their time and effort.

We had around thirty members join the meeting last week to hear Ham Meserve talk about the status of the Harbor Theatre.  Despite a challenging year he reported the Harbor Theatre financial status is stable thanks to generous community support and the receipt of two Pandemic Relief Loans.  The Harbor Theatre is looking forward to re-opening, but not until it is really safe for their movie goers.  We also shared a lively “ Thankful Basket”  round.  (Thank you, Alden for the reminder.)  It was so good to hear everyone’s news.  We usually start the meetings with about twenty minutes of chit-chat, the “Thankful Basket” is another way we get to appreciate this on-line community we have built this year.  I’m sure, like me, you never thought we’d be meeting on line this long.  But, I have so enjoyed staying in touch, seeing you and hearing your voices during this very isolating time.  Thank you.

John Hochstein has been in touch with Marcus Packard in Spain and has set a date for the next Spain/Maine Friendship Committee meeting, March 14th (Sunday) at 1PM via Zoom.  They are ready to start planning a Rotary Exchange in Spain, hopefully in the fall, if travel is safe.  Email John for an invite or more information.

Join us on March 11th to learn about an amazing gift from the Otto and Fran Walter Foundation, located right here in Boothbay Harbor to the Rotary Peace Centers. The Rotary Peace Centers are based on the Rotary Foundation commitment to addressing peace in the world and in the over 200 countries represented in the Rotary Foundation.  There are seven Rotary Peace Centers Worldwide that offer fully funded peace building and development educational programs.  Thanks to organizations like the Walter Foundation the Rotary Peace Centers will be able to offer this program to more students.  We will be welcoming several important guests and celebrating this wonderful event together.

Your Board of Directors will meet on Monday March 8th at 5:30 PM.  Let me know if you have anything for us to discuss or want an invite.
