Teacher Appreciation Day

On Wednesday, March 2 we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Day at Boothbay Region Elementary School. We brought pizzas, salads, cookies, and sodas to an appreciative group of teachers and staff. Next Friday, March 18 we will finish up with Boothbay Region High School and Edgecomb Eddy School. As before we’ll need help delivering pizzas and such. Irene is organizing so if you can help, please contact her for more details (ifowle50@gmail.com).

Our First In-Person Meeting This Year

We met in person last week for the first time since December 2! We got to hear from the Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary Club regarding a global grant project in Tanzania caring for street children. It’s a very worthwhile project that is having a great impact. Amy of course served up a great buffet supplemented by leftover pizza from Teacher Appreciation Day.

Safe Passage Presentation This Week

Our club has been involved with Safe Passage, a learning support program for children who live on the Guatemala city dump, since 2005, when Chip Griffin led a team of us to volunteer at the program. Since then, a number of our club members have continued to visit the program over the years, we've sponsored children to the program, and more.  Marty Helman will update us on how Safe Passage families have coped through the pandemic, how the program continues to expand, and what we as a club can do to assist.

Rotary Ukraine Relief

Rotary clubs in Europe and around the world are responding to the crisis in Ukraine. For a list of projects underway, please see the following link. Rotary Ukraine Projects. Rotary International is using the Disaster Response Fund to collect donations and support these efforts. Contributions to that fund can be made through My Rotary at Rotary Disaster Response Fund.

St. Patrick’s Day Party

Mark your calendars! St. Paddy’s Day is next Thursday, March 17. We will celebrate with a party that evening. Wear green and be festive. Family and friends are welcome!

People Power

With the return to in person meetings, we need volunteers for People Power! We need Waiters, Greeters, Innkeepers, Sergeant at Arms, etc. Please sign up online or contact Jim Herbold to volunteer.
