Dr. Chip Teel's Dementia Research
Dr. Allan “Chip” Teel of the Boothbay Region Health Center spoke with us last week about the exciting research he has been conducting at the center regarding strategies to stop, and possibly reverse, the debilitating effects of dementia. Unlike purely medication related treatments, the approach favored by Dr. Teel involves healthy lifestyle changes, including physical activity, eating well, and exercising the mind. He shared some very promising results. He drew inspiration from the book The End of Alzheimer's by Dr. Dale Bredesen.
Welcome New Members
This week we also formally inducted new members Mike Mallen and Karen Prichard. Both have already been active in club activities and we welcome them as full members!
Meet Gretchen Ostherr
This Thursday we will welcome Gretchen Ostherr, President and CEO of Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. The Gardens has grown from its opening in 2007 to be the second largest attraction in Maine (after Acadia) and the largest botanical garden in New England. Gretchen has been President and CEO since June 2020 and this year has overseen a remarkable increase in visitation compared to 2019 pre-COVID.
Thursday's Hybrid Meeting
Once again, the forecast of rain this Thursday does not look promising for spending our social time on the deck. The weather did pleasantly surprise us last week so keep your fingers crossed. We will also conduct the meeting via Zoom beginning at 6:30 when the program begins. The link will be in the meeting notice.
Either way, please plan to join us!
