Surprise!  What happened to those beautiful hot, sunny, long summer days.  Remember those, gone already, where did they go?  It’s definitely cooler and dark so early; but lucky for us we have the warmth and friendship of the BBH Rotary Club to see us through these long nights.  With the Holiday Season starting the Program Committee has planned a lot of fun festivities.

This Thursday we will welcome AOS98 Superintendent Robert Kahler.  He will talk about the proposed changes at our local schools.  Join us to hear the recent plans for keeping our schools thriving.

Then:  The Holiday Calendar Starts:

  • November 24th - no meeting -  Share Thanksgiving with Family and Friends

  • Monday,  November 28th - Decorate the Clubhouse  at 5:00 PM.  Pizza and Wine to be served.

  • Thursday December 1st - Regular Meeting except it’s Santa’s Helper night. We will make Goody Bags for the Food Pantry, etc.

  • Thursday December 8th - Regular Meeting - The Boothbay Health Center

  • Thursday December 15th -  Christmas Party with Yankee Swap, bring a $15 gift, Potluck Appetizers and Dessert &  Ugly Sweater Contest

  • Thursday December 22nd  - no meeting

  • Thursday December 29th - no meeting

  • Happy New Year - Regular Schedule Resumes on Thursday Jan 5, 2023

Last week we heard a fun re-cap of the Maine to Spain Friendship Exchange with the Rotary Clubs in Barcelona, Reus and Cambrils Spain.  The evening started with traditional Spanish tapas made by our intrepid travelers, served with Cava, a Spanish sparkling wine.  This was the perfect introduction to hearing the stories and adventures our members had with the Rotary Club members in these fascinating Spanish cities.  Linda showed us pictures of the amazing flamenco dance performance they enjoyed, then Monica shared the fun of the cockroach dance they all did during dinner one very soggy evening.  We ogled at pictures of 7th century monasteries, lovely sunsets, beautiful cities and villages and the Reus town hall.

They also visited “Solc Nou” School in Barcelona which is a vocational school for disadvantaged and homeless youth in the city.  The Barcelona Rotary Club is a big supporter of this institution and we were pleased to present a check for $1000 for this project to the Barcelona Club at their weekly meeting.  (Where dinner starts at 9:00 PM.)   It sure looked like a great time was had by all.  Next time we all go.

We’re hoping to keep the Big, Gray Rotary Barn open till mid December from 8:30 to 11:00 am every Saturday.  We will be closed if we get a snow storm or if the parking lot is icy.  Our Collectibles Boutique will be open too.  A great place to find a special gift for a loved one. Dress warm though, no heat in that big, gray, drafty barn.  We are accepting donations of gently used furniture, household goods, boats, trailers and collectibles.  Text or call Deb at 207-380-3550 for pick up or drop off arrangements.

Community members, visiting Rotarians, friends and family are always welcome at our meetings, Thursday nights around 6 Pm at 66 Montgomery Rd, Boothbay Harbor, Me  04358.
