PROGRAM SPEAKER: Mike Thompson: Current Club Co-President
When a program speaker has had to cancel, Rotary has no trouble finding spur of the moment fun and friendship and best of all renewing our understanding of our meeting time together. Tonight, our own Club Co-President, Mike Thompson, gave an informative, insightful, and entertaining review of the ingredients and tasks that make up a Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club Meeting.
First and foremost, we are reminded to sign-up in advance at a meeting or on-line on the club website for the following tasks.
The Greeter: each week a volunteer member dons the GREETER name badge and stands ever ready at the door to greet members as well as guests.
The Innkeeper: the ever- important innkeeper sets up our beverage bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages by coming to the club house a couple of days early to check on stock, purchasing needed stock, leaving a receipt for stock as well as any donated funds made at the bar in the bank pouch at the club. Brian M. will reimburse the innkeeper for funds spent. The bar is typically all set up by 530pm.
The waiters arrive slightly early to assist our caterer in set up and prep for the appetizer table as well as the food, dishes, and utensils for the meal table. After the meal they pick up the used plates, discarding disposables and preparing the dishwasher for the silverware or serving dishes. It is most helpful to set the ON button on the dishwasher when you arrive so that the machine is ready to begin a cycle when dinner is over. Garbage is collected and new bags put in receptacles. Brian our current hero takes out our trash! Leftovers are packaged and taken to the community FRIDGE for sharing.
And don’t forget to wear the lovely blue Rotary aprons for this much appreciated task.
Moneys collected from our Happy Dollars, Sgt at Arms, or the raffle, as well as the $15 fee for dinner or funds donated for beverages are all to be left in the bank pouch available.
The program committee takes suggestions as well as scouts out speakers for our program presentations such as authors, local community services, fund raising initiatives for worthy causes, or areas of member interest. Once a month the program committee sponsors a FUN night to ensure that our club never runs short on laughter!
The Scribe takes notes during both the program and the meeting to share with our membership in emails, as well as program reports and upcoming speakers are printed in our local newspaper.
Could anything sound more fun than a Rotary Meeting??
