BRHS Graduates Dinner

Last Thursday night the Rotary Club had the honor of hosting members of the Boothbay Region High School class of 2022.  Club members think this is one of the best nights of the year.  We are always inspired by the enthusiasm and graciousness and accomplishment of our local young people.  In these challenging times the graduating seniors always bring a smile to our faces and hope for the future.  Congratulations Class of 2022.

We also had the joy of presenting three $1000 “Service Above Self” scholarships to Emily Echols, Eva Schlosser and Jaelyn Crocker for their community engagement and commitment to service

Along with our yearly $5000 donation to the Boothbay Student Aid Fund the Rotary Club allocates money yearly for young people pursuing vocational careers.  Graduating Senior, Riley Faulkingham received the BBH Rotary Club Vocational Scholarship as he is planning a career in heavy equipment operation and diesel engine repair.

Past Elementary School Principal Mark Tess and Rotarian and language teacher, Ingrid Merrill each gave an engaging talk, reminding us how fortunate we are to have dedicated, creative and kind educators at our schools.

Welcome Fran Rudhoff

This Thursday we are welcoming Fran Rudhoff, Executive Director of the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle.  Watershed creates the beautiful bowls for the Annual “Soup Bowl Supper” which has been on hiatus because of Covid.  Fran says they have bowls waiting.  Hopefully we can have this fun event again come spring.

Grand March

Then, after the weekly meeting on Thursday it’s off to the school for the Class of 2020 Grand March, Thursday June 9 at 8:00 pm. A beautiful event and great way to cheer for our Seniors.

Big Gray Barn

The Big, Gray Rotary Barn at 66 Montgomery Rd is open every Saturday from 8:30 to 11:00.  Come shop for a great selection of gently used household goods, tools, furniture and collectibles.  We’re always accepting donations, just text Deb at 207-380-3550 for pick up or drop off arrangements.

Rotary Foundation

Judi White, our Foundation Chair, says don’t forget your annual donation to the Rotary Foundation.  You can donate directly at Rotary.Org or leave a check at the clubhouse or with Judi.  The Rotary Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life changing, sustainable projects in the last 100 years.  Our club has written and received several grants from the Rotary Foundation, all possible because of the yearly donations by members.

Rotary Bikes

Bikes, bikes.  We’re lending out bikes again to seasonal workers, either Thursday between 5-6pm or Saturday from 9 - 11.  $100 security deposit needed, but returned when the bike is.

Join Us

If you’re interested in the work and fun of Rotary we always welcome potential members.  Join us every Thursday at 5:45 at our weekly dinner meeting, 66 Montgomery Rd.
