Barn To Open
By Irene Fowle
Spring is on its way. It was a chilly morning, but Weather Underground says it will be in the mid forties today, and the fifties tomorrow. A heat wave in Maine, the shorts and flip flops will surely be coming out. But, the surest sign of Spring is that the Big, Gray Rotary Club Barn is opening this Saturday, April 4th for its sixth season. We’ve been restocking, redecorating, and re-cleaning. You'll find lots of treasures to help you welcome spring in Maine. A big thank you to everyone who has been working so hard to make this happen, especially our team leaders Laurie, Cathy and Barbara who have mastered the art of herding cats.
The pickup crews have been busy too. Thank you pickup crew. If you want a pickup just call or text 207-619-1417. None of this would be possible without the support of this generous, amazing community we are so lucky to live in.
Last week Cindy Wade RN, BSN, MHA and the President of Maine Health Lincoln, was our speaker. Cindy spoke about the importance of collaboration between Mid-Coast, Lincoln and Pen Bay hospitals to ensure patient coverage across the region. She also emphasized a strong commitment to maintaining services on the peninsula. Cindy has worked hard to address the medical needs of our community in these challenging and changing times.
Our speaker this week is Kevin Burnham, Editor of the Boothbay Register. Kevin joined the Register as a reporter when Mary Brewer was the Editor . “She taught me a lot,“ he said in an article. Then in 1987, he became the Editor and Mary the General Manager. Kevin grew up in Boothbay Harbor, so he knows the territory and the stories of the people in the region. At a time when small local newspapers are closing up shop nationwide, our community is so fortunate to have The Boothbay Register and Kevin Burnham still publishing our local news, events and stories. If a newspaper can reflect the heart of a community, The Boothbay Register is an example.
Don't forget dues are due. Just leave a check for $142.00 in the top desk drawer, or mail it to PO Box 518, Boothbay Harbor Me. Our treasurers Brian and Bill will thank you.
Join us any Thursday at 6 pm for dinner and an interesting speaker or program. We meet in our Clubhouse, 66 Montgomery Road, Boothbay Harbor, across the parking lot from the Big, Gray Rotary Barn. All are welcome. You’ll be glad you did.
