Welcome to the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor, where more than 70 community leaders volunteer their skills and resources to help address community needs and global issues.
Through Rotary, I have discovered what is possible when a group of individuals get together to make a difference. It matters not at all that we come in many shapes and sizes, backgrounds, or age-ranges—what we have in common is more important than our differences. We believe in Service Above Self.
It’s more than a motto, it is what compels our club. While our club is known for our affectionately named “Big Grey Rotary Barn,” where our weekend sales of furniture, antiques, and other used goods help bolster our fundraising efforts, we work year-round to help our local community and communities around the world. We give out bikes to seasonal and international workers, organize fundraisers, run mock job interviews for high school seniors to practice for future careers, deliver fresh vegetables to those who are food insecure, support global grants for fresh water or child and maternal health, and create care packages for veterans—among so many other things. Our dynamic club is made up of more than 70 unique individuals with varied skills, and every one brings their experience and passion to bear not only for our local community, but for people around the globe, too.
We also believe in fun and fellowship. Our weekly meetings vary, but—whether we are hearing from an incredible new organization or holding a club-wide corn hole tournament—we always take the time to connect with each other, laugh, and strengthen relationships. We are more powerful and impactful as a team, and we build those connections every week.
This club, nestled in on the coast of Maine, is part of a larger, global network of 1.4 million neighbors, friends, and leaders worldwide. Rotary holds the highest consultative status offered to a NGO at the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council, a group which oversees many UN agencies. With more than 46,000 clubs around the world, Rotary is one of the largest global service clubs on the planet. Each one is unique, but each one believes that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues.
Sound like something you’re interested in? We’d love for you to join us. We aim to engage folks from all walks of life in volunteering for communities near and far, and our club is flexible in ways you could participate. Whether as a guest, or potential new member, we welcome all to our meetings for fun, fellowship, and service.
