International Service
As Rotarians we know that our neighbors aren't just here in the Region; they can be found throughout the world.
We have a long-time commitment to Safe Passage, the program that makes it possible for children who live on the Guatemala City dump to have a chance to go to school and break the cycle of poverty.
We support Thai Daughters which rescues young girls at risk for sex trafficking, and Healthy Kids/Brighter Future in Zambia where teachers are trained in first line medical intervention. In addition, we have contributed to an educational grant for Bowdoin graduate Lonnie Hackett whose Masters in International Public Health will support his work in Zambia.
We also support Partners in World Health of South Portland, Maine, which ships unused medical supplies internationally, and ShelterBox, a disaster relief charity providing shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters worldwide. We give money to PolioPlus, with the hope that soon the world will be rid of that scourge and we gather mobility devices for Crutches4Africa. Additionally we are a partner club in a Global Grant for Guatemala Clean Water.
Wrap-A-Smile, a District-wide Rotary project which provides comfort quilts for children undergoing cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, is headquartered here in the Boothbay region.
Approximately 15% of our club’s fundraising supports our international projects, with the rest going to our many local endeavors.
We support ShelterBox, a disaster relief charity, providing shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters worldwide.
