Club President’s Message
Welcome to the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor, where more than 70 members volunteer their skills, experience, and resources to address the needs of our local community while supporting important causes around the world.
Through Rotary, I have discovered what is possible when a group of individuals comes together with a shared commitment to make a difference. We believe in Service Above Self.
It is more than a motto—it is what compels our club to serve.
Our club may be best known for our affectionately named “Big Gray Rotary Barn,” where weekend sales of furniture, antiques, and other used goods help support our fundraising efforts. But our service doesn't stop there. We work year-round to strengthen our community and help people around the world.
Proceeds from our fundraising activities provide income for the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor Foundation Inc (EIN 01-0535197) which is is a U.S. nonprofit that the IRS recognizes as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3). The Foundation's Board of Directors uses those funds, along with grants from individuals and organizations, to support a wide range of local initiatives. These include lending bicycles to seasonal and international workers, delivering fresh vegetables, food, and soups to people experiencing food insecurity, and creating care packages for local veterans—among many other projects.
We also support local and global Rotary grants focused on peacebuilding, disease prevention, clean water and sanitation, maternal and child health, education, economic development, and environmental sustainability.
Our dynamic club is made up of more than 70 individuals with different backgrounds, skills, experiences, and interests. Each person brings something unique to Rotary, and together we put our collective energy and passion to work for our community and for people around the world.
Service is at the heart of what we do, but we also believe in fun and fellowship.
Our weekly meetings are always a little different. One week we may hear from an inspiring local organization; another week we may find ourselves competing in a club-wide cornhole tournament. Whatever we're doing, we make time to connect, laugh, and build relationships.
Those connections matter. We are more effective and more impactful when we work together, and our weekly gatherings give us the opportunity to strengthen the friendships that make our club such a great team.
Nestled along the coast of Maine, the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor is part of a much larger global network of approximately 1.9 million Rotarians in more than 36,500 clubs around the world.
Rotary has the highest consultative status offered to a nongovernmental organization (NGO) at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, which works with and oversees numerous UN agencies.
Every Rotary club is unique, but we share a common belief: we all have a responsibility to take action on some of the world's most persistent challenges.
