Back in 2001, the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club was a galvanizing force behind the creation of the Midcoast Maine affiliate of Rebuilding Together! This national organization helps homeowners who need a little extra assistance with the physical labor we all need to do to maintain our homes. The homeowners Rebuilding Together targets include those who are at risk of losing their homes on account of age, disability and/or low income.  Our club remains highly involved in this program of neighbors helping neighbors

Each year, 150 or more Boothbay Region volunteers including Rotarians and Rotary family members come together on a Saturday morning in May to help upgrade or winterize our neighbors' homes.  Usually the Rotarians form our own work crew, and we work alongside the homeowner. Those Rotarians with the qualifications will roof or carpenter, and the rest of us paint and haul trash. A few of our members even take on the pleasurable task of delivering lunches to the work teams!

All agree that it is a great way to spend the day helping a neighbor. At day's end, that neighbor typically has a new roof on the ranch, a new deck leading to the front door, freshly painted trim and foundation, and winterized windows.

While Bill Bailey roofs, Christin, his daughter, paints.

Are we having fun yet, Lori?
